(Spirit Lake)– What could have become a major house fire was averted this afternoon in Spirit Lake.
Fire Chief Wally Jorgenson tells KUOO news his department was called to the Charlie Coy residence at 1304 Jackson Avenue around 3:15 this afternoon. Upon entering the house, Jorgenson says firefighters discovered a stove had been left on…causing a pan to overheat…filling the house with smoke. Jorgenson says firefighters got the stove shut off, took the pan outside, and ventilated the house.
No one was home at the time and no injuries were reported.
A neighbor heard the smoke detector going off and called authorities.
Had it been much longer before the smoke was reported, Jorgenson says they probably would have had a serious house fire on their hands.
The Spirit Lake Fire Department was at the scene for about a half hour this afternoon.
