Spirit Lake Firefighters Meeting With School Kids During Fire Prevention Week

October 06, 2026

(Spirit Lake)– As we reported previously this week is National Fire Prevention Week. Spirit Lake Fire Chief Pat Daly says they’re once again taking time this week to meet with school kids to educate them on the importance of fire prevention. He says that started today (Tues.) with pre-school through second grade students and continues the next couple of days at the fire station…

“Wednesday we do third and fourth grade, and then on Thursday we actually get a couple of us and we get a truck and we go out to a bunch of the daycares that have called us and wanted us to come out, so. We’re more than glad to do it, we just need a phone call to get you on the schedule.”

Daly says the sessions are specifically designed for the various age groups…

“The younger kids, you know, we always go back to the stop, drop and roll. Have a meeting place. It’s always good and actually we’ve been to a few fires since we started doing all of this and the kids are definitely taking it home because we got there and they were all standing in a group, so the kids are taking it home. Changing the batteries in your smoke detectors, just simple things like that.”

Speaking of which, Daly says now is a good time to check your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and to replace them if they’re 10 years-old or older.
