(Spirit Lake)– The Spirit Lake School Board got some bad news Monday. Superintendent Tim Grieves reported actual enrollment is much lower than what had been projected.
Earlier predictions had the enrollment increasing slightly from last year. Instead, it’s DOWN by about 40 students.
Grieves sites a downturn in the economy and lay-offs for some of the lost…saying some young families have moved from the community as a result.
Depending on what happens with the state’s budget, Grieves says the Spirit Lake School District may have to trim spending in the upcoming school year by 100-thousand to 150-thousand dollars.
