(Spirit Lake)– It’s official. Codes for residential, building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical and fire will become effective in Spirit Lake at the first of the year.
The city council voted unanimously Tuesday to adopt the new codes after hold a third and final reading of an ordinance establishing them. The final adoption had been delayed to give city officials time to hear concerns of contractors. Public Works Director Todd Dolphin says he feels the city was able to address them. Contractors who were at Tuesday’s meeting didn’t voice opposition. They did express a concern over how a fee system would be structured for building permits. They want it based on square footage instead of value. Dolphin says the city is willing to look at that.
