(Emmetsburg)– A 20-year-old Spencer woman is dead following a two-vehicle crash west of Emmetsburg Thursday evening.
The Iowa State Patrol says 20-year-old Lacey Peterson was killed in the collision, which took place around 5:20 p.m. on a bridge a quarter-of-a-mile west of Emmetsburg.
Authorities say Peterson was westbound on Highway 18 when she passed another vehicle and went onto the north shoulder. Peterson over-corrected and crossed the centerline, striking the south side of the bridge. Peterson’s vehicle then collided with an eastbound vehicle driven by 19-year-old Dominetrick Jones of Emmetsburg.
Peterson was pronounced dead at the scene.
Jones and a passenger in each car, 19-year-old Emily Hubbell of Emmetsburg and 23-year-old Tiffany Kollasch of Spencer, were injurred. All three were taken to the Palo Alto County Hospital. Two were treated and released; one was life-flighted to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester. Hospital officials wouldn’t release the identity of their patient.
The crash remains under investigation.
