Spencer Woman Injured In Rollover

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)– A rollover accident in southern Clay county Friday sent one woman to the hospital.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says the mishap took place just after 10:00 a.m. on Highway 71 near the “Royal curve”.

A semi-truck driven by 31-year-old Michael Berends of Anthon was northbound on Highway 71 when the endgate came open, spilling asphalt onto the road. At the same time, a northbound vehicle driven by 36-year-old Javio Rubio of Spencer hit the asphalt and entered the west ditch. The vehicle rolled several times, coming to rest on its side.

A passenger in the vehicle driven by Rubio, 33-year-old Margarita Torres of Spencer, sustained neck, pelvic and leg injuries. She was taken to the Spencer hospital where she was treated and released. Rubio received minor cuts but refused treatment.

The mishap remains under investigation.
