(Spencer)– A Spencer woman has been arrested for allegedly stealing checks and trying to pass them at area stores.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office arrested 19-year-old Rachel Newkirk around 9:00 p.m. Wednesday on charges of forgery…a class “D” felony.
The charge stems from an incident in late January in which checks were allegedly stolen from the home of Troy Thoreson in rural Spencer. Newkirk is accused of writing out the checks to several area stores.
She was released from jail after posting bond.
