Spencer Woman Charged In Jewelry Store Theft

(Spencer)– A Spencer woman has been arrested after allegedly diverting money from a Spencer jewelry store into her personal bank account.

An investigation by Spencer police into the theft of over five thousand dollars from Nelson Jewelry has led to the arrest of 28-year-old Leslie Hayenga-Adams of Spencer.

Hayenga-Adams is accused of diverting money from Nelson Jewelry into her own bank account while she was employed as a book keeper at the store.

The thefts are believed to have occurred between January 2001 and August 2003.

Hayenga-Adams is charged with second degree theft…a class “D” felony.

She has been released from custody on a citation to appear in court at a later date.
