Spencer School Bd. Hires New Middle School Principal

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)– The Spencer School Board Monday approved the hiring of Steve Barber as new Middle School Principal.

Barber succeeds Chris Yaw who resigned last month to take a job at Maurice-Orange City-Floyd Valley High School in Orange City.

Barber comes to Spencer from East Union Middle and High School in Afton where he was Principal for nearly four years. He also spent time as a science teacher and coach in Grand Junction, Iowa and Okabena, Minnesota.

Barber begins his new duties with the Spencer school district July 1st.

The Spencer School Board also Monday discussed the process of building a new Middle School. Voters last week narrowly approved a four million dollar bond issue to help finance the 11 million dollar project. The board hopes to get all plans and specifications finalized and bids out to contractors over the next four months. If all goes as planned, they hope to start site work by late this coming October.
