Spencer Police Form “Citizen’s Academy”

November 23, 2014

(Spencer)– Spencer police say they want to give the public a firsthand look into what officers do on a daily basis. The department is organizing a citizen police academy. Lieutenant Mark Lawson tells KUOO news the academy will give residents several hands-on opportunities. For example, he says they’ll be able to ride with officers and witness firsthand how cases are investigated and followed-up on. They’ll even get in on some special firearm training. Instructors from the County Attorney’s office will also give a presentation on constitutional law.

The citizen’s academy will meet once a week every Tuesday evening over the next 11 weeks starting March 19th.

The academy is open to anyone 18 and over…but it’s limited to 12 people. Applications are available at the Spencer Police Department or city hall. Anyone not selected for this session will be put on a waiting list for the next one.
