(Spencer)– Major damage was reported from a fire this (Tues.) morning at the Spencer Motel.
Fire Chief Doug Duncan says his department was called to the scene at 1725 Highway Boulevard around 6:22 a.m. Upon arrival Duncan says flames could be seen coming from the east end of the roof.
Duncan says firefighters had to open the roof to contain the blaze. He says they were successful in containing most of the fire to the east end of the motel where the office and the owner’s living quarters are located.
Duncan believes an electrical malfunction in a sign may have been the cause.
Some patrons were in the motel at the time. Duncan says they managed to get out with no injuries and were allowed to return to their rooms later to retrieve personal belongings.
The Spencer Fire Department was on the scene about an hour-and-a-half.
