Spencer Man Pleads Guilty To Federal Drug & Ammo Charges

(Sioux City)– A Spencer man has pleaded guilty in U-S District Court to drug and ammunition charges.

26-year-old Joey Wayne Doran pleaded guilty last month to one count of being an unlawful user of controlled substances in possession of ammunition. At a plea hearing, Doran admitted he had been a long-time user and the ammunition seized during a search of the residence he shared with a roommate on April 27th of this year was his.

Doran remains free on bond pending sentencing which will be held after a pre-sentence report is completed. He faces up to 10 years in jail without the possibility of parole; a 250-thousand dollar fine and three years of supervised release following any imprisonment.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U-S Attorney Kevin Fletcher and was investigated by the Spencer Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

The case is being prosecuted as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a cooperative local, state and federal program aimed at the enhanced prosecution of gun crimes.
