Spencer Man Charged With Illegal Possession Of A Firearm As A Convicted Felon

(Spencer)– A Spencer man has been charged in federal court with one count of felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition.

The charges against 44-year-old Billy Joe Engelkes are contained in an indictment filed on August 19th in U.S. District Court in Sioux City.

The indictment alleges that on or about May 19th, 2010 Engelkes possessed a shotgun and ammunition after having been previously convicted of a felony drug charge on July 26th, 2007 in O’Brien county.

If convicted Engelkes faces a possibly maximum sentence of 10 years’ imprisonment, a $25,0000 fine, $100 in special assessments and up to three years of supervised release following any imprisonment.

Engelkes appeared August 20th in federal court in Sioux City and was released on bond. His next appearance for trial is set for October 4th, 2010.
