(Spencer)– Plans to construct a multi-million dollar surgery center at Spencer Hospital are being shelved for now, atleast.
Hospital C-E-O John Allen says the decision stems from a recent meeting he had with the four orthopedic surgeons of Northwest Iowa Bone, Joint and Sports surgeons. Allen says they’re looking at possibly constructing an ambulatory surgical center.
Upon getting that information, Allen says hospital board members decided they want more time to study alternatives. Allen says it’s in the best interest of both Spencer Hospital and the Northwest Iowa Bone, Joint and Sports Clinic to work together toward a joint facility.
A groundbreaking on the hospital project had been tentatively set for this fall. But now Allen says that will be put off indefinitely. He says the hospital board and orthopedic group will continue a dialogue in the near future on exactly what the project should consist of.
