Spencer Hospital Breaks Ground On Surgery Center

November 23, 2014

(Spencer)– Spencer Hospital has turned dirt on a new 21-million dollar expansion project.

Hospital staff, the board of trustees, city officials and construction crews gathered in the hospital’s front lobby Monday to kick-off construction on the new surgery center and expansion project.

Hospital President and CEO John Allen says the hospital is in perfect financial shape to take on the project. He says four and-a-half years ago the hospital had one and-a-half million dollars in cash and seven million in debt. Now, he says they have 13 million in cash and no debt.

Allen says the project will add 115-thousand square feet to the west side of the existing hospital. The surgery center will include three floors consisting of eight new operating rooms, two special procedure rooms, storage space and plenty of room for future expansion.

Construction will start soon with completion slated for December 2005.
