Spencer Firefighters Battle Simultaneous House Fires

November 23, 2014

(Spencer)– Fire destroyed one house and heavily damaged a neighboring one Wednesday in Spencer.

Fire Chief Doug Duncan says firefighters were called to 13 West Park Street around 3:43 p.m. and found the front of the structure completely engulfed. Duncan says the blaze was fanned by a strong south wind…spreading it to a neighboring house at 17 West Park Street.

Duncan says the residence at 13 West Park Street was pretty much destroyed in the blaze; the one at 17 West Park was heavily damaged. Duncan says the roof was burned off that structure.

Residents of both houses were home at the time and managed to get out safely.

The cause of the blazes is under investigation by the State Fire Marshall.

Some firefighters had to be treated for heat-related problems. The Spencer Ambulance stood by at the scene.

Firefighters were on the scene until about 10:00 p.m.

The Spencer Fire Department was assisted by the Fostoria and Everly Fire Departments.

Traffic on a portion of Grand Avenue had to be re-routed for several hours as a result of the blazes.
