(Spencer)– A domestic disturbance in Spencer Wednesday evening has landed a woman in the hospital and a Spencer man behind bars on numerous charges.
Spencer police say they were called around 8:30 p.m. to 713 East Eighth Street to check on a domestic disturbance that had turned physical. A caller told police a woman had been struck with a baseball bat.
Upon arriving police found three people standing in the front yard: 20-year-old David Trombley of Spencer, 37-year-old Paula Fritz and 20-year-old April Kaufmann of Spencer. When officers approached the house, Trombley dropped to the ground with his arms out to his side.
Officers were told that an argument had broken out between Trombley and Kaufman when she tried to remove items from the home because she was moving out. The argument became physical, and Kaufman was able to get away and call 911 at a neighbors house.
As Kaufman started back toward her house, her friend, Paula Fritz, had arrived and started arguing with Trombley. At that time Trombley allegedly went inside the home and came out with a baseball bat. He’s accused of striking Fritz in the back with the bat.
Fritz was taken by ambulance to Spencer Hospital. Kaufman received minor injuries as well.
Trombley was arrested and charged with domestic assault and willful injury…a class “D” felony. He was booked into the Clay county jail awaiting an initial court appearance.
