Spencer Council Approves Additional Funding For Events Center

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)– The city of Spencer will help the under-budgeted Clay County Regional Events Center open on time.

At their meeting Monday evening, the Spencer City Council voted six-to-one to release 200-thousand dollars in accumulated economic development funds to help complete the Events Center.

Last month, Events Center Board members Kris Van Berkum and Bill Orrison spoke to the Finance and Personnel Committee about the funding to help purchase a sound system for the facility and to help with the construction of a large parking lot. The committee recommended approval of the funding request. But councilman Ed Krebs told his fellow council members he doesn’t feel comfortable using taxpayer money for a sound system at the Events Center. He was the only one to vote against the matter.

Officials hope to have the Events Center up and running by the middle of this month.
