(Spencer)– Spencer is one of 16 communities awarded two million dollars in “Great Places Grants”.
Now in its sixth year, Iowa Great Places is an initiative that combines state resources with local assets to help Iowans make their communities, regions, districts and neighborhoods great places to live, work and raise a family.
The grants are through the state’s IJOBS program.
Spencer will be getting $153,000 to renovate the exterior of a former automotive store to be converted into a history museum. The funding will help bring the structure up to present building code requirements, improving energy efficiency and will be used to relocate the entrance for handicap accessibility.
