Speed Limit Lowered On Gravel Road Southwest of Milford

November 23, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson county board of supervisors Tuesday voted to lower the speed limit on another road.

The limit on 180th Avenue between county roads A-34 and A-43 southwest of Milford is being reduced from 45 miles-per-hour currently to 40.

The supervisors took the action out of hopes the lower speed will ease a dust problem on the gravel road. It’s used heavily by trucks traversing to and from a nearby gravel operation. Many who travel the road says visibility is often reduced to near zero when meeting trucks and other vehicles on it. County officials are concerned over liability.

The vote to lower the limit was four-to-one with Mardi Allen casting the no vote. She wanted to wait another month before taking any action, saying traffic counts should decrease on the road thanks to a nearby bridge that was recently reopened after being closed several months for construction.
