(Spirit Lake)– The search for a 12-year-old Estherville boy who was on a dock barge that sunk October 23rd on West Lake Okoboji continues.
As of right now, Dickinson County Sheriff Greg Baloun says the search for Collin Helmers is once again ground-based, with sonar operations having ended for now atleast.
A side scan sonar crew with the Georgia-based Seth Foundation left the Iowa Great Lakes this past Sunday after their attempts to locate Helmers were unsuccessful.
Helmers was on the barge with 31-year-old Mathew Molacek of Wallingford, who’s body was recovered a couple of days after the mishap.
