Some Northwest Iowans Remain Without Power

November 23, 2014

(Estherville)– Some residents in Emmet and Clay counties still don’t have power as a result of Thursday’s ice storm.

Officials with Alliant Energy say an estimated 200 of its customers were still without power this (Fri.) afternoon. Most of those are in the Armstrong and Everly areas. A company spokesman says it’ll be Saturday morning at the earliest before power is restored to those areas. Additional crews have been brought in from central and southern Iowa to relieve local crews who have been working around the clock.

The situation is a little better for Iowa Lakes Electric Cooperative. General Manager Terry Bruns said that other than a few isolated outages caused by falling ice, their system was pretty much back to normal this (Fri.) afternoon. However, Bruns says many ILEC customers can expect a power outage tomorrow (Sat.) morning. With temperatures expected to warm to around 40 degrees, Bruns says they’ll be taking up to 17 substations north of Highway 18 off line for up to an hour. He says that will probably happen between 10:00 a.m. and Noon. It will affect ILEC customers in Clay, Dickinson, Emmet, Palo Alto and a portion of Kossuth county.
