(Arnolds Park)– A close call Saturday night on East Lake Okoboji.
The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office says a snowmobile operated by 40-year-old Scott Morrow of Spirit Lake went through the ice near the East Okoboji Beach area.
Authorities were called to the scene around 9:30 p.m. and were not immediately able to locate Morrow.
As a search was being organized, Morrow called the Dickinson County Communications Center saying he was okay. Authorities met with him a short time later to confirm he was okay.
No damage was reported to the snowmobile.
Authorities again warn that ice is in most cases only a couple inches thick, and in some cases, it doesn’t even exist.
The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Spirit Lake and Okoboji Police Departments, Iowa Department of Natural Resources, Arnolds Park/Okoboji Rescue and Dive Team and the Dickinson County Ambulance.
