(Okoboji)– Proof positive as to just how dangerous the ice is on the Iowa Great Lakes.
Dickinson county authorities say a snowmobile and an all-terrain-vehicle went through the ice late Saturday morning on Fort Dodge Point on West Lake Okoboji. No injuries were reported…but both items reportedly went to the bottom of the lake and had to be retrieved. Other details into the incident…including the names of those involved…weren’t immediately available.
There are reports of open water in that same area today (Monday).
Authorities are once again strongly discouraging anyone from taking vehicles onto any of the Iowa Great Lakes.
Officials say temperatures expected to be in the 40’s this week are going to make the ice even more dangerous.
