Snowmobile Accident Lands Man In Jail; Woman In Hospital

(Wahpeton)– A man is in the Dickinson county jail and a woman is in the hospital as the result of a snowmobile accident early this (Sat.) morning on West Lake Okoboji.

Gary Owen, an enforcement officer with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, says 39-year-old Jeffrey Hatfield of Omaha, Nebraska was operating a snowmobile off Manhattan Beach of West Lake Okoboji when he struck an ice heave. Hatfield and a passenger, 24-year-old Christina Moore of Omaha, fell off the machine. Moore was retrieved from the ice by the Arnolds Park/Okoboji Fire and Rescue air boat. She was taken by ambulance to Lakes Regional Healthcare with a possible broken collarbone. No injuries were reported to Hatfield.

Hatfield was arrested by the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office and charged with operating while intoxicated. He was booked into the Dickinson county jail.

No damage was reported to the snowmobile.

Officials were called to the scene around 3:00 a.m.

The incident remains under investigation by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
