(Spirit Lake)– Today’s Snow and ice storm is wreaking havoc with travelers and power.
The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office says it’s received scores of reports of motorists going into ditches. Highway 86 near Wahpeton was blocked for awhile late this morning by a jack-knifed semi. Authorities say so far, no serious injuries have been reported in any of the mishaps.
Alliant Energy and Iowa Lakes Electric Cooperative report power outages in the area. The largest one affected ILEC customers on the west side of Spirit Lake and in the Lake Park area shortly after 8:00 this morning. Power was restored for most within a half-hour. Rick Oleson, Operations Manager for ILEC, says additional outages will be likely as ice continues to build up on power lines and winds increase.
Many schools in the area have now canceled classes completely for the day.
