(Worthington, Mn.)– Snow and freezing drizzle combined to make travel hazardous Sunday and early this (Monday) morning. Most of the problems were on Interstate 90 in southwest Minnesota where the state patrol says scores of accidents happened…some within minutes of each other.
One of the more serious mishaps took place shortly before 5:00 p.m. Sunday in Rock county. Authorities say 19-year-old Mark Obermoller of Round Lake lost control of a 1992 Chevrolet Blazer that left the road, crossed the median and collided with a semi-trailer. Obermoller was taken to the Luverne hospital where he was treated for minor injuries and released. Passengers in the vehicle he was driving, 65-year-old James Obermoller and 52-year-old Sandra Obermoller…both of Round Lake…were treated and released. No injuries were reported to the driver of the semi.
The other serious mishap took place on I-90 in Rock county a short time later. It involved three vehicles that collided in what’s described as a head-on, T-bone-type accident. Authorities say it involved a 1993 Ford Probe driven by 20-year-old Dennis Gisch of Algona who was treated for minor injuries at the Luverne hospital and released. The second vehicle, a 1994 Ford Explorer, was being driven by 61-year-old Arlen Miller of Marion, South Dakota. Miller and a passenger, his wife, were taken to the Luverne hospital where they were treated and released. The third vehicle, a 1998 Buick, was being driven by 57-year-old Donald Middelstadt of Milford. Middlestadt and a passenger in the vehicle he was driving, 56-year-old Jane Middlestadt, were transported to the Luverne hospital. Donald Middlestadt was treated and released; Jane was held for observation. All three vehicles were totaled.
