(Spirit Lake)– A fire this (Saturday) morning damaged a business and some offices in a strip mall behind the Pronto convenience store in Spirit Lake.
Spirit Lake Fire Chief David Kollasch tells KUOO news firefighters were called to the scene around 8:30 a.m.
Upon arriving he says firefighters encountered a considerable amount of smoke coming from the Wren’s Nest store. Upon further investigation firefighters found smoke in other areas of the strip mall as well.
There was no immediate word on a possible cause. Kollasch says it appears the fire started in the Wren’s Nest. He says there were no visible signs of fire–only smoke–when firefighters arrived. Firefighters ventilated the building.
Kollasch says the owners of the Wren’s Nest discovered the smoke when they arrived this (Saturday) morning to open up.
In addition to the Wren’s Nest, the strip mall also houses offices of the Farm Services Agency, the Natural Resources Conservation Service and the DNR. Kollasch says some smoke damage was reported to those areas as well, but most of it was confined to the Wren’s Nest.
Firefighters were on the scene several hours.
No injuries were reported.
Larry Lago, County Executive Director of the Dickinson county Farm Service Agency, says the office will be closed Monday (April 26th) and will remain closed until power can be restored to the building.
