(Spirit Lake)– Authorities are releasing additional details into a fatal motorcycle accident that took place Friday night on the east side of Big Spirit Lake.
A passenger on the motorcycle, 13-year-old Anthony Lee Vos of Sutherland, was killed in the mishap. The driver, 21-year-old Dustin Lockhorst of Sheldon was seriously injured. He was taken to Lakes Regional Healthcare and was transferred by air to a hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.
Spirit Lake police say Lockhorst was driving a 2001 Suzuki motorcycle northbound on 253rd Avenue south of 125th Street when he lost control and left the road, striking a legally parked pickup owned by Larry Lilland of Spirit Lake.
Five thousand dollars in damage was estimated to the motorcycle; damage to the pickup was estimated at four thousand.
The mishap took place around 11:00 p.m. Friday.
Spirit Lake Police were assisted by the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa State Patrol, Lakes Regional Healthcare Ambulance, Spirit Lake First Responders and the Spirit Lake Fire Department.
