(Spirit Lake)– Two Spirit Lake police officers have been promoted to supervisory positions in the department.
Chris Kielman has been named night sargeant and Brian Stahl day sargeant.
Kielman has been with the Spirit Lake Police Department since July of 2002 as a patrol and training officer. Stahl has been with the department since January, 2001, serving as a patrol officer until September, 2003 when he became a detective, a title he held up until now.
The officers were involved in an interview process for the sargeant’s position that was conducted when Jon Martyr was still Chief. Martyr has since resigned to accept a job with the Corvallis, Oregon Police Department.
Stahl says it will be business as usual for the Spirit Lake Police Department until a new Chief is named. A timeframe and method for doing that hasn’t been announced. Mayor Eric Nielsen wants to hire a consultant to assist in the process, similar to what was done in the past. Jerry Harbst, a city council member, wants a committee of community representatives appointed to conduct the search.
