SLHS Student Honored As Youth Volunteer Of The Year

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– A Spirit Lake High School student has been named the YMCA of the Okoboji’s Youth Volunteer of the year in the 2012 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program.

The award was recently presented to Daniel Stover, who was recognized for his volunteer activities at the Y and throughout the community.

Stover is now eligible for the Iowa Youth Volunteer of the Year Award. Two state honorees, one in Middle School, the other in High School, will be named in February. Each will receive a $1,000 award, a silver medallion and a trip to Washington, D.C. with a parent or guardian. Other honorees will receive bronze medallions or certificates of excellence.

At the Washington event, 10 national honorees will be named with each receiving an additional $5,000, a gold medallion, a crystal trophy for his or her school and organization and a $5,000 grant from the Prudential Foundation for a nonprofit charitable organization or his or her choice.
