SL Traffic Stop Results In Drug Charges Against Two Men

November 23, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– A traffic stop late Thursday night in Spirit Lake has resulted in drug charges being filed against two men.

Police say they stopped a vehicle on the corner of Hill Avenue and 165th Street near the Presbyterian Church shortly before 11:30 p.m.

Rambo, the Spirit Lake Police Department’s canine, was implemented in a search of the vehicle. Authorities say the dog was able to identify an odor of a controlled substance, which led to the discovery of drug paraphernalia and a substance alleged to be marijuana.

The driver, 21-year-old Matthew Nappe of Milford, and a passenger, 19-year-old Douglas Carnes of Cedar Falls, were each charged with possession of a controlled substance, a serious misdemeanor; and possession of drug paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor.

The two men were booked into the Dickinson county jail.
