SL Traffic Stop Lands Welcome, Mn. Man In Jail

(Spirit Lake)– A traffic stop early this (Fri.) afternoon in Spirit Lake has landed a Minnesota man in jail on numerous charges.

Spirit Lake police say they pulled over a Dodge mini-van for a traffic violation shortly after 1:00 p.m. at the intersection of Highways nine and 71 and Ithaca Avenue.

The driver, identified as 29-year-old David Matthew Thompson of Welcome, Minnesota, was arrested for driving while under suspension.

A subsequent search resulted in the discovery of marijuana on Thompson’s person.

Additional charges were filed against Thompson, including possession of a controlled substance…marijuana; possession of drug paraphernalia; prohibited acts; operating while intoxicated…first offense; and no insurance.

Thompson was also cited for two traffic violations.

He was booked into the Dickinson county jail.

Spirit Lake police were assisted by the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa State Patrol.
