(Spirit Lake)– The Spirit Lake school board Monday heard construction updates on the new gym and performing arts center at the high school.
Superintendent Tim Grieves reported Christianson Brothers Construction, the general contractor on the projects, is on-site and ground work has started.
The board was told to expect some changeorders soon, including one that will refund the district money. It’s for sales tax on construction materials that schools and other governmental entities are immune from paying. For the performing arts center it will amount to 221,540-dollars; for the gym, the district will get back 47,320-dollars.
Grieves also passed along a warning about an impending parking problem at the high school, saying he and Principal Fred Skretta will be working on alternative parking plans prior to school starting.
On another construction-related issue, it was reported rennovation work on the Schuchert Circle at the high school is progressing and will hopefully be completed this Friday.
