SL School Board Discusses New Building Projects

November 23, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– The Spirit Lake school board Monday discussed the next phase of the district’s construction program.

Superintendent Dr. Tim Grieves says it would be financed by a 1.9 million dollar federal grant the district received for facility improvements along with the one cent local option sales tax. Grieves says the scope of the project hinges on the amount of sales tax proceeds the district will have to work with. Current plans call for 600-thousand dollars in remodeling the rotunda area of the high school; and a four to six-room addition onto the middle school along with increasing the size of an art classroom, and additional classrooms for science, art, industrial art and foreign language, if there’s enough money.

Grieves says tentative plans would have a bid letting on atleast the highschool project being held late this winter or early spring, with construction starting early in the summer.

The timeframe and scope of work on the middle school depends on the availability of funds.
