(Spirit Lake)– Spirit Lake police are looking for whoever’s behind a recent rash of vandalism in the city.
Police say they’ve received numerous reports about buildings in the downtown area that had graffiti spray painted on them this past weekend. A welcome sign on the city’s east side near the Highways nine and 71 bridge was also hit. Police say it had purple spray paint used on it. Black spray paint was used on a restroom at Kiwanis Park and the telemarketing building, VFW and Bubble Inn…all on Lake Street. In several incidents an image resembling a bomb was painted on the buildings, along with the letters R-U-K and A and an unidentifiable symbol.
Not even the Police Department was immune from vandals. About 20 windows were broken out of the former Alliant Energy Generating building at the corner of 16th Street and Ithaca Avenue, which is now a part of the Police Department. Authorities say the damage was caused by rocks that were thrown through the windows.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Spirit Lake Police Department.
