(Spirit Lake)– Spirit Lake’s Planning and Zoning Commission Monday voted to recommend the city council approve a preliminary plat for a project on the same land where a developer had previously proposed putting up some vacation rental townhouses. That project was scrapped after encountering strong opposition from neighbors.
To ease those concerns, the developer on the new project, Danny DeWall, said his plans consist of six duplexes instead of the 22 condo units that had been proposed for the site previously.
The P & Z approved the preliminary plat with some conditions. An alley must be 23 feet wide to allow safe passage of emergency vehicles and it must be extended to the farthest lot; a fire hydrant must be placed atleast two to three feet from the side of the street; lots one through four will be rezoned R-1 and lots five and six will be rezoned R-4.
The city council will act on the commission’s recommendation at their meeting this (Tues.) evening.
A discussion of vacation rentals was also on the agenda for Monday’s meeting. That matter was deferred to the commission’s next meeting…tentatively set for June 21st.
