SL Officials Respond To Allegations

November 23, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– The city of Spirit Lake this (Fri.) afternoon issued a formal response to allegations of misuse of city equipment and labor.

The allegations surfaced at Tuesday’s city council meeting when questions were asked about city workers who were recently seen using city equipment to load gravel on another city employee’s property.

In the written response, Public Works Director Todd Dolphin says the employee donated four to five tons of rock he had left over from a landscaping project to the city. Dolphin says the rock was used to fill a washout at the end of 18th street, saving the city money. Dolphin says crews were using city equipment which already happened to be in the area to move dirt off a street.

Dolphin says the employee has made receipts for the materials available and that they’re available at city hall for public inspection during regular office hours.
