(Spirit Lake)– Charges have been filed against a Spirit Lake man who got into a scuffle Sunday evening with police officers.
Spirit Lake police say it started shortly before 7:30 p.m. when an officer noticed a subject in the 1600 block of Hill Avenue that appeared to be walking unsteady. Upon further investigation they determined the man was intoxicated. The suspect, identified as 23-year-old Shawn Johnson of Spirit Lake, was arrested and charged with public intoxication.
Authorities say Johnson became unruly upon arriving at the jail, where he allegedly spit on an officer and headbutted an officer in the nose, resulting in additional charges of interference with official acts and assault on a peace officer. Authorities say a vehicle parked near the Communication Center was also damaged as a result of the scuffle.
The officer wasn’t seriously hurt.
Johnson was booked into the Dickinson county jail.
