SL Garbage Rates To Go Up

November 23, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Residential and commercial garbage rates in Spirit Lake are about to go up.

The city council Tuesday adopted an ordinance establishing a new rate schedule. Public Works Director Todd Dolphin says residential rates will go up a dollar…from $10.75 a month currently to $11.75. Dolphin says the increases are needed to keep up with ongoing maintenance costs, and to establish a fund to regularly replace dumpsters and roll-off containers.

The council also Tuesday took under advisement a request from the Spirit Lake Youth Association for a Business Manager or city rec. director. The association’s Randy Magg says the position would take a load off volunteers. Magg feels the position would pay for itself through the additional people and money that would come into the community as the result of being able to hold more tournaments.
