SL Council Hears Parking Proposal; Awards Bids

November 23, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Some major changes could be coming in parking on the west side of Lincoln Avenue in Spirit Lake north of Highways nine and 71. Bill Eich Tuesday requested the city council consider a proposal to move the curb in that area to inside the property line. It would result in parking along the west side of that portion of Lincoln Avenue being moved off the street. Eich said it would accomodate plans to expand his business. He says it would make the street wider, while increasing the number of parking spaces. He’s requesting the city foot the bill to relocate and replace the curb and paving. Public Works Director Todd Dolphin estimated the cost at 10,000 to 12,000 dollars if the project was bid. If the city does the work, Dolphin estimated the cost at between four thousand and five thousand dollars. The council took no action, saying they want more time to review Eich’s proposed plans. Dolphin added that a city ordinance that doesn’t allow parking between the curb and lot line would have to be tweaked to make the proposal work.

The council also approved plans and specifications for the paving of the Sunland Addition and awarded a bid for the project to Wick’s Construction for 410,148-dollars.

The council also approved plans and specs for materials to extend infrastructure to the Pointe of Pines First Addition, and awarded a total of 112,601 dollars in bids for the items.

The council also approved the purchase of eight roll-off containers at a cost of 31,500-dollars; and they reviewed the proposed budget for the upcoming fiscal year. It would set the tax asking at $9.53 per thousand dollars valuation, the same as the last two years. A public hearing on the proposed budget is set for March 11th.
