(Spirit Lake)– The Spirit Lake city council Tuesday directed the city’s Park Board to keep working with an architect to draw up plans for a shelter house at Gilbert Park. The board hopes to have the structure, complete with a kitchenette, done by next fall.
The council voted to refinance bonds issued in 1998 for Phase One of the Hill Avenue North Reconstruction Project. A lower interest rate should save the city 52-thousand dollars it had intended to pay in interest.
Streetsweeping in the downtown area was also brought up. Council members have received requests that the city clean up excess sand spread on streets during winter storms now that the snow and ice have melted. Public Works Director Todd Dolphin said the street sweeper uses water to clean the streets and can only be used when the temperature is above freezing. This time of year it’s rarely warm enough to operate the sweeper in the early morning hours before cars are parked in the business district.
