SL Council Awards Bids On 28th Street Project

November 23, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– A street extension project in Spirit Lake has the green light to proceed.

The City Council Tuesday awarded bids to extend utilities and pave an extension of 28th street between Keokuk and Lincoln avenues. The low bid of 164,272-dollars was awarded for paving; and a bid of 14,829 dollars was awarded for piping, 11,735 dollars for backfill and gravel and 26,500 dollars for intakes and concrete tile.

The council also adopted an amendment to the city’s ordinances on standards for construction in the public right-of-way.

Council members also expressed concern that Mediacom hasn’t extended lines yet to some new subdivisions in the city. The matter was referred to the city’s Utility Committee.

Councilman Pat McNorton expressed concern over new recycling requirements implemented at the Dickinson County Landfill and the impact they may have on the city’s recycling efforts. The council wants to meet with landfill representatives on the issue at an upcoming meeting.
