SL Council Approves Lighting Studies For Highways 9 & 71 & Highway 71 South

November 23, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– The Spirit Lake City Council Tuesday approved a 21-thousand dollar contract with West Plains Engineering to do a study on the cost of installing decorative lights along Highways nine and 71 and Highway 71 south.

The council also approved the fifth pay estimate on the water treatment plant expansion for 119,884-dollars. The cost is being covered through a three million dollar low interest loan from the Department of Natural Resources. The project is needed to meet new state and federal guidelines for water treatment. Public Works Director Todd Dolphin says abnormally cold weather this past winter pushed the project back by about a week. But he says the contractor is confident they’ll be able to get back on schedule soon. Under terms of the state loan, Dolphin says the city will be required to review its water rates. He isn’t certain when that study will get underway.
