(Spirit Lake)– The Spirit Lake campus of Iowa Lakes Community College was officially dedicated Saturday in honor of a long-time member of the college’s board of trustees–Jack Tatman.
Tatman, who served 42 years, was also the first President of the college’s board of trustees.
Speaking to reporters following Saturday’s ceremony, Tatman said the growth and importance community colleges now play far outweighed expectations back in 1967 when the community college system in Iowa got its start. He attributes that to boom in technology and computers.
And when it comes to the future for community colleges, Tatman says they will play an even more important role down the road. He sites the role the institutions play in re-training those who have been displaced during the economic downturn as one example.
