(Spirit Lake)– Very minor damage was reported to a Spirit Lake business as the result of a small fire this (Saturday) morning.
Fire Chief Wally Jorgenson says Spirit Lake firefighters were called to Bayview Gifts and Garden on Highway 71 south shortly after 5:00 a.m.
Jorgenson says a small fire burned a hole into a wooden floor on a front porch. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire and only very minor damage was reported.
Jorgenson says it appears the fire was caused by a security light that got turned over. He speculates that either heat from the light or a malfunction caused the fire.
Spirit Lake firefighters were on the scene about 15 to 20 minutes.
Jorgenson says the fire was discovered by a passerby who called authorities.
He says it’s a good thing it was discovered when it was or damage could have been much worse.
