Sewer Rate Hike Proposed For Milford

November 22, 2014

(Milford)– Milford residents may soon be seeing an increase in sewer rates.

The city council Monday approved the first reading of an ordinance that would increase residential sewer rates from 80 cents per thousand gallons to 90 cents. The increase would be effective July 1st.

City Administrator Brian Reed estimates the increase would generate an additional nine thousand dollars in revenue.

Reed says the increase is needed to fund some badly needed improvements to the city’s sanitary sewer system. Currently, he says the utility is barely breaking even.

The council also Monday voted unanimously to purchase security cameras for the city’s green waste drop-off site to curb the illegal dumping of other items. The cost of the cameras and related equipment will come in between 1,500 and 1,600-dollars.
