(Spirit Lake)– Severe Weather Awareness Week will be observed in the state of Iowa April 5th through the 9th.
Emergency management officials say each day will feature a special topic. For instance, Monday’s will be on flash flooding; Tuesday will be on warning reception; Wednesday is tornados; Thursday is on severe thunderstorms and Friday’s topic will be family preparedness.
Next week’s activities will include a statewide tornado drill on Wednesday, April 7th. Dickinson County will be among those participating. Emergency Management Coordinator Mike Ehret says sirens will be sounding throughout the county in conjunction with the drill at about 10:10 a.m. that morning. Individuals, businesses, schools and industries are urged to participate in the drill.
In preparing for the upcoming season, emergency management officials recommend families prepare a household emergency kit containing necessary supplies to sustain you and your family for atleast three days; to make a plan on where to go and what to do in the event of an emergency; and to be informed.
