Semi Trailer Snags Power Lines Knocking Out Power To Portion Of SL

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Power was knocked out to portions of Spirit Lake Monday when a semi-trailer accidentally got into some power lines.

Spirit Lake police say 41-year-old George Caves, Junior of Lincoln, Nebraska was pulling out of a business driveway near Last Chance Stadium on Highways nine and 71 when the top of the semi trailer caught some power and cable t.v. lines, bringing them down onto the road. Several poles were also broken.

Power was knocked out to most areas of town north of Highways nine and 71. All four lanes of the highway had to be closed while crews worked to remove the downed lines.

No injuries were reported.

Damage to the semi trailer was estimated at 500-dollars; about 20-thousand dollars in damage was estimated to the utility poles and wires owned by Alliant Energy and Mediacom.

The incident took place late Monday afternoon.

Utility crews were back on the scene today (Tuesday) repairing the poles and putting the lines back up.
