(Wahpeton)– The search continues for a missing 12-year-old Estherville boy that was on a barge that sank nearly a week ago on West Lake Okoboji.
Dickinson County Sheriff Greg Baloun says the search for Colin Helmers is being scaled back, but continues. A crew with the Hennepin County, Minnesota Dive Team returned to Minneapolis late Thursday after another day of scanning with high tech sonar equipment failed to turn up anything.
Baloun says crews will continue to use jet skis and other means to patrol the West Okoboji shoreline for signs of anything washing up.
The barge was brought up Thursday and has been taken to a secure location. An investigation by the DNR into what caused the barge to sink is under way.
